On the road again....

Well we dropped off our son at base and headed south again. Seems like a long day has started but it has started with a great fairwell to Warren. We'll see him in a few months.

Morning with Warren.

We went to see Warren at base this morning for goodbye and went shopping at the Navy Exchange. Granny had to have a Navy hat to show her support for our sailor. He was wearing his peanutbutter uniform and getting ready to ride the train into the city with his friends.

Alma and Theta with Warren

We had a nice day with our sailor, riding around the area of the RTC and the new base Warren will report to the STC here in Great Lakes. It's a very nice area with nice homes near the lakeshore.

The complete first step.

The bootcamp ordeal is over. Warren has learned alot about himself and the chain of command.

It's done, Warren is in the US Navy

On review..

At the graduation hall.

It's very tight in seating in the hall. Security is very high and i feel good just being here.

We are here in Great Lakes

The hotel is ok, and they welcome us with discounts.

Indiana we are here

We are in the plains of Indiana...

Kentucky here we are.

Just passed through williamsburg, Kentucky where we met on our family trip out west in 2000.
Now in a traffic jam outside Lexington....

Tenn. Mountains

The mountains of Tenn. and NC are wonderful and scenic.

We crossed the NC line.

Crossing into North Carolina and into the Great Smoky Mountains, you can tell where the name came from this morning. The fog is heavy in parts of the areas around the tops as we go up and down.

On the road..

Here we go north... In the big blue truck.

Warren's shipping out day

It was an early morning for Warren, on the day of his shipping out, and a hard day for us to see him off to the Navy. He did a great job keeping his chin up and doing as he was told. The swearing in was exciting and we were very proud to see him start this great adventure. We are very proud and excited to come up and see him graduate from boot and take this first step into his future.
I know his Grandfather is very proud of him too.

Warren's Grandpa (Lloyd E. Dennis NASCAR driver #28 in 1950)

NASCAR issued it's twenty-eighth stock car racing license to Lloyd Edwin Dennis in 1949. Lloyd was a member of the Carolina Racing Team at the time and Bill France Sr. asked if any of the drivers wanted to race in Daytona, Florida. Dad and thirty of the other local drivers joined Bill at the first NASCAR race on the beach in Daytona.

7th Generation

Warren Harrison Dennis the 7th Generation ... you have some big shoes to fill ... and some stories to live down ... you come from rough tough fare fighting ... Harley Riders ... Race Car Driver ...Moonshine hauler ... moonshiner ... Logger ... Preacher ... Sheriff, and a jailbird ... Hobo ... and a Dancer ... you have it all running through your blood. A bloodline of folks that would just as well "fight as eat". You can do anything you put your mind on. I believe in you, I'm proud of you, and I love you very much Grandson Warren.

Phone call from Warren yesterday

Warren called Sunday afternoon with a mouth full of candy, the first in seven weeks. He is still on schedule for grad this week, after a bad cold sent him into 'sick call'. He's feeling better now and sounds strong. More tests this week, but he is ready for them. He sounds more grown up each time we talk. I'm so proud of him.

Me and my son before the Navy

I have been lucky to spend lots of quality time with my son. He has been and always will be my friend as well as my son.
He is my right hand man and coworker around the house, in the yard and on my projects.
I'm proud to be his father.
